My Writing Process – Writers’ Hop

This is a stop on a blog hop with several authors discussing their writing processes. Where  authors offer glimpses of their work, writing process, and perhaps their innermost thoughts. Happy hopping!

So for my contribution to the blog tour:  Let me introduce myself:  I am Debra Andrews and I write “Glitzy, sexy romances with a dangerous twist.”

Q: What am I working on?

I am working on a romantic suspense series (Dangerous Millionaires) and currently finishing the second book, DISGUISED WITH THE MILLIONAIRE (working title). The book is scheduled for release within the next few months. The books in the series can be read in any order.

Set in the wealthy playground of Fort Lauderdale, DISGUISED WITH THE MILLIONAIRE is a combination of jeopardy, action and romantic romp, with issues of love and trust and whether we all hide behind a mask at times. “After Kate Meyers’ brother dies in a construction site accident involving faulty equipment, and the handsome owner, Trent Farrington, is cleared of wrong doing, she lands a job with the company to do her own investigation. She plans to get the evidence to convict him, only to find that nothing in the company is as it seems at first.”

The first book in the series, DANGEROUS PARADISE, was released in November 2012 and is a 2012 National Readers’ Choice Awards Finalist in Romantic Suspense. “After death threats, a woman escapes with her new fiancé on a South Pacific cruise and becomes stranded with another man—a cynical and devastatingly handsome English actor. Unfortunately, the only people who know they are alive are those out to kill her.”

Q. How does my work differ from others of its genre?

I think all writers probably bring a little bit of themselves to the table when they write, with their values, uniqueness and sense of humor.  In my stories, I love humor and a lot of conflict between the hero and heroine. I like to experience them falling in love and learning to trust each other in spite of their conflicts. Besides suspense and action, there is also a mystery element within.

Q. Why do I write what I do?

I like to write a book I would enjoy reading. I love long sweeping books that really get into the characters and have a lot of love, passion, drama, and are spiced with humor and tears, sort of like real life.  As I mentioned above, I’m very big on stories with a lot of conflict, so it’s not always easy going for my hero and heroine.

Q. How does your writing process work?

The first half of DANGEROUS PARADISE came to me in a dream.  Most of my stories usually start with the hero and heroine and a plot idea. I have several stories spinning and taking form now in the back of my mind. When I’m ready to begin writing, I get snippets of ideas for scenes and write them down on cards and then move them around to form a plot and the story starts growing from there. Some of the dialogue comes to me at the weirdest time so that I’m always jotting down things on paper. I have to have a solid plot before I write, which can change, but I have to have a direction. Weaving in the mystery with the romance is the most challenging part for me.
